How Long It Actually Takes for your Skincare Products to Start Working

Skincare Results Timeline:

In today’s world, instant gratification is what people have come to expect. This is especially true when it comes to any skincare products. Are you one of those people that does a face mask and questions why you don’t have porcelain skin right after? Don’t worry, we are all guilty of it; but don’t lose faith in the product so quickly! To ease your eager mind, here’s a timeline on when you should see results and when to jump ship.

Cleansers:

With Cleanser, you should notice a difference (good or bad) right away. If your skin immediately feels dry or irritated, the cleanser is too harsh for you.  On the flip side, if your skin feels softer and smoother, that cleanser is nourishing your barrier. As for acne face washes, any cleanse that contains salicylic acid or glycolic, you should see improvement in blemishes within two weeks. Sometimes with cleanser, especially when starting a new one, your skin will purge. Purging is when your skin actually gets worse before it gets better. This is due to the new cleanser bringing impurities and oil up to the skins surface.

Dark Spot Treatments:

This section covers acne scars, sun spots, and hyperpigmentation. Skin conditions like these are, unfortunately, more of a marathon than a sprint. Any sort of hyperpigmentation can be caused by many factors such as hormones, sun exposure, sensitive skin and Melasma. Therefore, treating discoloration is more of a lifetime maintenance.Hydroquinone is the most common ingredient in dark spot treatment products. This decreases your melanin production, and takes up to 4-8 weeks to see results. However, subtle lightening can be seen after about two weeks of use. We personally like, ZONA's own compounded HQRA cream.Antioxidants, like vitamin C, which are more commonly used to protect you from free radicals also help to lighten up dark spots. This is a bit slower of a path, in which results are seen about after two months. One of best antioxidant products is Revisions Vitamin C and Skinbetter’s Alto Defense Serum.

Retinol:

This is a big one that everyone wants to know about. With Retinols, you should see an overall improvement in the way your skin looks within 4-6 weeks. This includes slight reduction in fine lines, more even skin tone, faded discoloration, fewer breakout and smoother skin. A lot of retinols can be overbearing and actually cause irritation and flaking. Thankfully, Skinbetter’s AlphaRet has time release technology, so your skin uses what it needs and doesn’t make your dry. As for wrinkles? It going to take a while for the collagen production to kick in and notice bigger wrinkles to soften. However, complete reversal of all wrinkles and aging will unfortunately never happen.
