How wrinkles are formed

Creases on the forehead and frown lines between the eyebrows are the result of muscle contractions combined with a loss of skin elasticity. This loss of elasticity can be caused by sun exposure, hormone loss, genetics or the aging process. The creases and lines that form in the skin due to decreased elasticity can make you look tired, stressed and older than your age. Who wants to look old and tired? We’re sure you don’t. You want to look as young and outgoing as you feel.

How does it work?

Like Botox, Dysport  works on the muscles under the skin to smooth moderate to severe facial lines, Dysport interrupts the signals between nerves and muscles resulting in a reduction in the muscle contractions that cause frown lines. The forehead, eye area (aka “crow’s feet”), nose or “bunny” lines, and fine lines around the lips are given a smoother and more youthful appearance, while untreated areas of the face remain unaffected. In fact, certain areas of the face, such as the eyebrows, can appreciate a nice lift and make your eyes bigger and brighter.

How does Dysport differ from Botox?

All treatments are made from botulinum toxin Type A, but clinical research has found that the formula used for Dysport takes effect more rapidly and some clients have responded that overall, it provides a more natural, relaxed look. The reduction in lines and wrinkles is temporary with Dysport, on average most Dysport clients results last 4-6 months. Side effects are rare and usually limited to the site of injection which include mild redness, inflammation, and/or bruising (can last 1 to 7 days). Most people who are happy with the results of an initial Dysport treatment decide to repeat the treatment on a regular basis. Regular Dysport injections can bring not only an improvement in appearance but also people will comment on how rested and refreshed you look without realizing that you’ve had a cosmetic procedure. You will look better, but they won’t know why.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

  • Do not consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising)
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications for a period of 2 weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish oil, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.
  • Schedule your Dermal Filler and Botox appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event which you may be attending. Results from the Botox injections will take approximately 7-14 days to fully appear. Also, temporary bruising and or swelling may be apparent in that time period.
  • Discontinue Retin-A 2 days before and 2 days after treatment.
  • Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a cold sore or rash on your face.
  • Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.
