Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are the quickest and most effective ways to treat unwanted wrinkles. As we age, our skin loses elasticity. This is caused by things such as sun exposure, hormones, genetics and the aging process in general. The result? Skin that looks tired, stressed and older than your age. That’s where Botox comes in!
Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, also called neuromodulators, stop the nerve signals that tell your muscles to contract. This temporary blocking of muscle contractions is what smoothes and eliminates fine lines and wrinkles.
Untreated areas of the face remain unaffected. Side effects are rare and usually limited to the site of injection which includes mild redness, inflammation, and/or bruising (can last 1 to 7 days). Headaches after injections are also common.
While Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are all made up of Botulinum toxin Type A, their formula differs in the amount of accessory proteins they obtain. Botox has the most accessory proteins, thus is it considered the ‘heaviest’ injectable. Next down the line is Dysport, which has a considerably lower amount of added proteins. Xeomin has no accessory proteins, thus making it a ‘pure’ version of the botulinum toxin. Due to the large number of accessory proteins Botox contains, patients may build up a tolerance to the injectable requiring the injector to increase the dose or switch to another option like Dysport or Xeomin. Dysport further stands out from the other two toxins because it kicks in quicker and typically lasts longer. This leads to the benefit of saving hundreds of dollars by only having to come to the Med Spa 3 times a year as opposed to 4-5 times with Botox and Xeomin.
This is a very common question and a good one to ask. Botox, Dysport and Xeomin results are NOT immediate. It will take several days for the muscles to respond, however, your final result is 2 weeks. At the 2 week mark if you feel like an eyebrow is uneven or you needed more units we can touch it up. Remember, the reduction in lines and wrinkles is temporary with toxins. On average, Botox and Xeomin last for approximately 3 to 4 months, while Dysport can last 4-6 months.
We receive many calls asking how many units they will need. This is up to the injectors professional opinion. It largely depends on how much wrinkle movement you have and how much movement you’d like to have (for example from people like to have zero movement while others feel that it’s more natural to have a little movement). Below is the average number of units a person may need. Please remember that the specified range of units needed per area in the chart above is a generalization.
