Laser Hair Removal Vs Waxing

Hair Removal 101: To wax or to laser?

When it comes to removing unwanted hair, which option would you choose? Laser hair removal or waxing? Waxing has been around for a long time, so it’s a safe and familiar choice to most. However, laser hair removal has come a long way with pain reduction and safety.  In terms of experience, price, and results is it better to wax or laser the hair away? We’ve gathered the information on each of those point to lead you to a decision.

How Does it Work?

Laser: Today, pulsed light with AFT (Advanced Fluorescence Technology) treats unwanted hair with quick and safe bursts of light. All hair follicles go through periods of dormancy and growth. As the Laser Hair Removal AFT pulsed light only affects hair follicles that are actively producing hair at the time of treatment, resting follicles must enter the growth phase before they can be effectively treated. For this reason, treatment must be repeated every 6-8 weeks for a series of 6-10 treatments depending on the person and the area. Check out what the process looks like in this video!Waxing: Growing the unwanted hair out to at least ½ inch if required before your waxing appointment. Warm wax is applied to the area, the wax cools off slightly, and is then torn off from the root in the opposite direction of hair growth. This temporarily removes hair, for an average of three weeks of smooth skin. Then another regrowth period to an ½ inch before your next appointment is necessary.

How does it feel?

Laser: The discomfort of laser hair removal comes from the firing of the laser. While pain tolerance is an individual matter, most people tolerate the treatment well, and describe the sensation as a rubber band snap to the skin. Plus, the feeling only last a few seconds during the treatment. Additionally, a topical numbing cream can be requested to help take the edge off.Waxing: The discomfort of waxing comes with the removal of the wax. The wax is peeled up, and in the opposite direction to uproot the embedded hairs. This can sting in the process and there is  the additional possibility that the waxed areas can be irritated for a day or two afterwards. Unfortunately, no topical numbing cream can be offered with waxing.

How long do the results last?

Laser: This non-invasive and effective approach yields permanent hair reduction and long-term hair removal- anywhere on the body. Results can take effect in as little as 3 sessions, however a full 6-10 treatment is needed for permanent results. After that, only a once a year maintenance session, at a reduced cost, is all you need to be absolutely hair free.Waxing: The results of waxing tend to last only a few weeks. On average, 3 weeks is when people start to notice hair growing back in. Then you must let it grow out before your next sessions. This is the process that is required of waxing.

How much does it cost?

Laser: While prices vary depending on where you go, laser hair removal costs up to a few hundred dollars per session. For us, ZONA Med Spa, we offer packages of 6 sessions so you get the best results possible. A small area, such as the upper lip or chin is only $499 for the package of 6. A medium area, such as the traditional bikini or underarms, is $699 for the package. While, a large area, such as a Brazilian or bottom half of legs, is $999 for 6 sessions. Plus, we offer “in house financing”, were we allow you to pay off the amount in smaller increments.Waxing: There is a smaller upfront cost with waxing, however you’ll end up paying more in the long run. Think about it, $20-$100 each session for years on end will cost thousands of dollars over your lifetime. You’ll need to wax for as long as you’re interested in staying hair free and carefree. The choice is clear, laser hair removal is better than waxing.  It’s less painful, more economical, and the results are forever!
