Starting in their teens, more and more women are partaking in lip-plumping procedures to get a perfect pout big lips like certain celebrities *ahem, Kylie Jenner*. The trend has taken over Hollywood and the everyday world. According to American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), more than 27,000 lip procedures took place in the U.S. in 2015, meaning a lip procedure was being performed every 20 minutes—a new record! The numbers have only went up from there.
Celebrities that never had notable lips are all of a sudden appearing with plumper, fuller ones. The message is clear: big plump lips are in, smaller thin lips are out. Due to this, plastic surgeons and Aesthetic professionals are noticing a major increase in lip augmentation procedures. Just at our Med Spa alone we have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of lip injections we perform.
However, it’s important to have realistic expectations. You shouldn’t expect Kylie Jenner lips. While you may have an idea in your head of what you’d like your lips to look like, it should be realistic and natural. Realistically, transforming thin lips into big pouty lips takes multiple syringes and appointments. Depending on your current look and the look you are wanting, be prepared it may not happen in one treatment or with just one syringe. Talk with your injector before doing treatment to discuss your goals. Kylie went on record to admit she had received “temporary lip fillers”. Although it’s more than likely that she went ahead got lip implants after liking the effects of the filler. To keep up those famous lips, she would need to keep up with her filler more frequently. Thus, it’s more realistic that she got a more permanent solution.
While some people might still have their reservations, the acceptance of cosmetic procedures such as Botox and fillers is on the rise, and it does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Which we love! Feeling confident on the outside, can lead to a more confident and happy you on the inside.
